Two weeks ago this Friday my beautiful sister-in-law got married. It was an absolutely beautiful day and she was a stunning bride. You couldn’t help but feel the overwhelming love while watching the two of them commit their lives to each other and then get caught up in the joy and laughter as we watched them celebrate all night long. It was beautiful to watch and so fun to be a part of. While I did have my camera with me, it just wouldn’t be right if I didn’t, I wasn’t able to shoot the wedding like I normally would have- being a part of the wedding party and having a 7 week old who was still nursing every two hours seriously cut into my photography time. Darn that sweet, sweet baby! That being said, I still managed to take a handful and I apologize for the ridiculous amount of photos I am about to post. It was a fantastic day and a wonderful start to their journey. Congrats you guys I love you both!

such a special day
I am delighted to share a few photos from the beautiful wedding Jamie, Jay and I got to be a part of last weekend. On Friday the 4th Jamie’s cousin married her long time boyfriend Josh in what can only be described as the perfect day! The weather was beautiful, the bride was even more so, the details were thoughtful and springy and the whole day was just so full of love and joy! Maggie and Josh, we truly couldn’t be happier for the two of you and were so honored to be a part of your special day.
While there were SO many things and moments that I would have loved the opportunity to photograph at this wedding I simply didn’t get the chance. It has been so long since I have attended, much less participated in, a wedding that I didn’t photograph! However, I did get a handful of photos that I love. So please excuse the ridiculous amount of photos I am about to share. I really had way too many favorites to narrow it down any further than I did!
First up- Bridesmaids’ luncheon and mani/pedis
the rehearsal dinner
Jay has a hard time not making a silly face these days
The wedding day!
happy new year
2013 year in review…
January
We played outside (in diapers and underwear since it was SO warm), Jay learned how to ride his first bike and we celebrated his 3rd Birthday!
February
We made some updates around the house, I painted some new bedroom furniture, Jay was potty trained and Charlie really started running around.
March
We enjoyed a little bit of a cold front, found out that we would be welcoming another baby boy to the family, built our super cool backyard fort and hosted the shrimp boil.
April
We battled some a nasty cold where Charlie had to do breathing treatments, I finished Jay’s quilt, we played with cars, played outside and enjoyed our new slip and slide.
May
We celebrated Charlie’s half birthday, we grew butterflies, we played out front in our kiddie pool, started swimming again and played outside in the rain.
June
Charlie got his first haircut, we took a trip to Starbucks Springs, we swam a whole lot, I painted the boys joint big boy room and we vacationed in Anna Maria Island with family.
July
We welcomed our third beautiful baby boy, Luc, into the world, Jamie and I celebrated 7 years of marriage and I turned 31 years old.
August
We spent a lot of time in the pool, the boys finished their swimming lessons and Jay started preschool 3 days a week.
September
We visited with extended family while they were in town, attended Jay’s first school parade and swam some more!
October
Jamie celebrated his 33rd birthday, worked out the kinks of our new shared sleeping arrangements and therefore battled with some very tired boys; we built a whole lot of duplo towers, made some pretty adorable Halloween costumes and battled off some terrible preschool germs.
November
Jay attended his first Florida State football game with Jamie, Charlie celebrated his 2nd birthday and we enjoyed visiting with family when they were in town visiting.
December
We decorated our house for the holidays, enjoyed Jay’s preschool Christmas program, took a trip to Terra Ceia and enjoyed holidays with our boys and extended families.
Every January as I look back at our year I can’t help but feel so incredibly blessed. We have had a wonderful 2013 and I can’t wait to see what 2014 is going to bring!
blue waters- water skiing and tubing
This year during the beach trip we were able to take advantage of a pretty amazing boat. Jamie’s dad, Pepere, belongs to a boat club which he generally uses to have fishing boats while he is in Terra Ceia; however, while we were at the beach he rented a deck boat and the family was able to do some skiing and tubing along with other boating activities.
While I would have loved to have gone skiing or tubing I decided that I didn’t actually want to have our son while were on vacation and I played the part of photographer from the boat. I kicked myself for not having our big camera (dslr) with us but I do love the photos that we did get of everyone having fun. We even were able to give the boys a turn, riding with Daddy of course, and although their faces don’t really show it they really enjoyed themselves.
The first couple of photos are Uncle Bob’s, he took some amazing photos (with his DSLR) of Josh and Jamie skiing before I grabbed our camera. Josh has been skiing for quite awhile and this was Jamie’s second shot at it.
blue waters- pool time
Because of the sand and salt water I don’t take my super large camera (DSLR) with us frequently when we spend time at the beach; there is just too much that could go wrong. That being said I tote around our waterproof camera with us almost everywhere we go which results in tons of water photos. Here’s the first set of those photos from our many, many dips in the pool.
By the way, I am pretty sure that my children are half fish and I know that my husband is. I am constantly having to drag them all out of the pool…
blue waters
A week ago we returned from a wonderful week at the beach, Anna Maria Island specifically, and while laundry and a sick kiddo have kept me from being able to post these as soon as we returned here they are for you to enjoy. While we were there I was 34 weeks pregnant, and on my last week of allowed travel per Doctor’s orders, so while I was moving a little more slowly we made the best of it and cherished our time as a family of four.
I am pretty short on words these days, I blame the tiny person inside of me along with the other two that are running around outside of me, so instead of a whole lot of commentary I will just let the photos speak for themselves and say a great time was had by all. As usual, we have a ton of photos from the week so I will break them up into a few posts so I don’t overwhelm you.
If you would like to see some of the photos from our last trip, it’s a semi-annual trip made by Jamie’s family, check out this, this, this or this post.
simply done cuisine
My crazy talented brother-in-law just launched his cooking blog, Simply Done Cuisine. To say that he is talented would be an understatement- seriously the boy can COOK!!!! He is posting some super delicious recipes along with fun videos on how to make everything- really you NEED to check it out. Each episode allows you to cook two meals out of one set of ingredients; so after cooking you end up with one meal for tonight and one for tomorrow. Yup, you read that correctly- one for today and one for tomorrow!! I know that my crazy busy Mom friends are singing his praises right now. Seriously, less time spent in the kitchen these days is so worth it because I honestly have so many better things to do- playing cars and Charlie snuggles trump most things!
So this is he, Jeremiah, with my sister-in-law (Jamie’s sister)- yes they are fantastically adorable together.
And here’s some food photos to get your tummy growling. This dish was so delicious that Jamie and I had it twice in one week- once at the filming and then again when we made it ;) Actually we ate the pasta 3 times since we had enough leftovers for two meals- bonus!!
All this to say check it out, you won’t be sorry!
keep the love cookin’
Nicole and Jeremiah are getting married!!! I have been wanting to post congrats for the longest time, but waited a little bit so they could be the first to share the news and then well time got away from me- what else is new these days? Their wedding is in the works for October of this year and I couldn’t be more happy for the two of them. Here’s a photo of the happy couple from our beach trip…
The Saturday before heading down to Anna Maria Island I had the pleasure of hosting a shower Nicole. She (unfortunately) lives in Asheville so we don’t get to see her as often as we would like and had to be creative about when we could celebrate but the stars aligned and it was a good time!
I went for a cooking theme since Nicole’s husband to be is a chef and the love to cook together. Guests brought recipes that were mailed with the invite. I am putting those recipes together, along with a few other family recipes that I wanted to share with them, in a family cookbook. I decorated with a bunch of beautiful cookbooks that I borrowed from family members, floating candles in mason jars, and a few other random kitchen items here and there. For games, I had Jeremiah answer a bunch of questions about Nicole and we played our version or the “Newly Wed Game”, we had a-name-that-spice-game and also a memory game where guests had to remember the kitchen items that were on an apron that Nicole was wearing when everyone first arrived. I gave guests fresh herbs that Jamie and I got the week before at the farmers market (Jamie helped me plant them in cute pots) for winning the games. Along with the invites that I made, I made some wedding advice Mad Libs that made for great conversation over lunch.
I honestly wasn’t able to take as many photos as I would have liked to but here are a few from the ones I got…

Oh yeah- here’s the menu and links to some of the food that we had if you want to try any of the recipes!
Becky’s Yummy Punch- no recipe here just a great recommendation from a good friend
Salted Brown Butter Rice Crispy Treats– so much better than regular rice crispy treats and definitely worth the extra effort in my opinion
Mini Raspberry Fruit Tarts- I don’t have a recipe for these either, sorry they are just one of my made up concoctions :)
the first of the beach photos
Last Sunday (father’s day) Jamie, Jay and I headed down to Blue Waters Beach Club, a beachfront motel on Anna Maria Island, to spend the week with his family. A week at the beach was a long standing tradition with the Vickers Clan who sat sea side year after year and while they took a break for a few years (10 to be exact) it was such a nice tradition to resume. Everyone had a wonderful time, enjoying lazy mornings on the beach and in the waves, early afternoons in the shade, dips in the pool before supper, plenty of family meals, amazing sunsets and great conversations long into the night.
We have so many photos from our trip (surprise, surprise) I am not really sure where to even start! So in an effort to not overwhelm anyone I think I will probably break it out into a few post- you’re welcome, I know you were thinking it ;)
Here you go with the first batch…

a very special book to share
It’s no secret around here that our little Jay Bird loves a good book. He will crawl up into almost anyone’s lap, book in hand and sign “please” practically begging you to read to him. I challenge you to try and say no to his sweet little face; I simply don’t think it’s possible.
A little more than a month ago I ordered a very special book for Jay to share with all of our friends and family. Little by little, he crawled into each of their laps and had them read to him. Why is this book, “Things I Love…” so special you ask? Well, the end of this book marks a very exciting beginning for our family…
It reads…
But while I have loved being the number one son,
I know being a BIG BROTHER will be much more fun!!
Baby #2 due Thanksgiving 2011!!!!!!
Jamie , Jay and I are so very excited to share that this Thanksgiving we will have one more thing to be grateful for- a brand new baby, a fourth member of our family!!
And while we weren’t able to tell everyone in person I did have my camera out when we did and here are some of their reactions. They weren’t as shocked as the ones we had when we told them about Jay but they were fun to get on camera just the same!
