a different view…

I took these photos a few weeks back, actually it’s been over a month now, with my 16-35mm lens (that’s a wide angle lens for you non-camera readers) while Jay and I were playing in the front yard waiting for Daddy to get home from work.  I love the different “look” that they have- quite the Jay Bird’s eye view ;-)

A silly face he used to make frequently. He doesn't do it that much anymore- it's crazy how quickly they change!
same silly face- I loved it and miss it...
playing on the blanket
excuse the less than stellar picture of me, but if I don't take self portraits I don't get many of me and Jay

our weekend

Since we stayed up late to snuggle in for a movie, since our little guy woke us us at 4:50am and then again at 7am, and since my eye lids are heavy and I’m having a hard time focusing you will be getting a view of our weekend in short (possibly fragmented) sentences and pictures. Enjoy- there are a lot of pictures; it was a long weekend for us…

we had lunch with this guy
these guys were there for lunch too (and Grandma and Aunt Nancy who aren't pictured)
we knocked down towers made by this guy
we hung out in the hammock
we had a bunch of wagon rides
we got some great veggies from the farmers market
we got to wear hoodies because the weather was chilly
we worked in the garden
and we spotted this little beauty! (it's a squash in case you didn't know)
we had a serious case of bed-head after our nap
we were super cuddly after our nap- Mama didn't mind one bit!
we were also super silly and smily after our nap
we got to check out the birds on the lake after lunch
we got to play with HDH cups while sitting on the table
Mama attended a beautiful baby shower while the guys watched football

hosted by this cute one ^ for this adorable Mama to be ^
we made some yummy muffins with the help of this guy- recipe to come soon
we wore pants that were too big and thought it was funny when they were pulled up to our armpits
we played with Dolce, string and baskets...

We had dinner at the Knights and took each other’s Holiday photos. I would show you- they are too cute- but I am a little traditional about the photos and think you may have to wait until the card comes in the mail to see it. I will tell you one thing though, I LOVE them, that’s for sure!

we played with the kitties some more
we drank juice from a cup- with a huge amount of assistance and only for a short while

We hung out around the house on Monday
Had lunch with Grandpa again- lucky ducks are we to have lunch twice within four days
And Jamie and I celebrated out 5th year of knowing each other.  That’s one whole hand’s worth of time!!

All in all it was a great weekend. Hope yours was too!

hi, my name’s kristen and

I am a recovering perfectionist…

There I said it, it’s out on blog land and more importantly I have admitted it to myself.  Lately, I have struggled with finding time- the time to cook, clean, be the “perfect” mother, “perfect” wife, maintain and build new friendships and also throw a few minutes in for myself to sit back relax and enjoy some of the things that I like doing.  Sounds like a great plan, right?  Check everything off your to-do list, enjoy and have a perfect day with the kiddo, have dinner on the table for Dad when he gets home- heck throw in some candles and wine and call it a date with Dad after said kiddo is in bed!  That’s one nice day isn’t it??  Ha!  I am going to burst bubbles here folks so if you would like yours to stay intact stop reading and just go back and look at our incredibly cute Jay Bird here.  But here goes- that isn’t possible, it won’t happen and gasp… that’s okay…

Honestly, it has taken me a good 9 months to come to the realization (one that I am still working on daily) that I don’t have it all together and that with a kiddo to run after daily I can’t and won’t have it all together- ever.  So I reluctantly have started to embrace the craziness that is our life right now with the piles of stuff gathering on every open surface, the laundry that has been in the dryer since yesterday waiting to be folded, the half dozen pictures that I have taken but haven’t looked at yet, the dozen or so projects I have started but have yet to finish and the to-do list on my fridge that was written with good intentions but that I won’t get to today…

This is my life right now and well I love it for all its craziness, its quirks and most importantly its blessings… of which I have so many…  I am pretty sure that I can’t sum up my life any more perfectly than the sign in our kitchen right now does- “We may not have it all together but together we have it all.”

I certainly hope that you all take a few minutes today to appreciate all the blessings that you have in your life right now, whether they are four legged and furry, toddling and babbling or understanding and accepting you even before you understand yourself. Go right now- hug them just a little longer than normal, tell them that you love them and mean it with every ounce of your being. Go, do it for me…

because all posts are better with picture- especially if it includes these two :-)

halloween 2010

A few months ago (yes I started early) I was trying to figure out what Jay should be for Halloween when I stumbled across a Blue Bird pattern.  That was all I needed for the search to be over, what could be more perfect a Blue Jay costume for my little Jay Bird- um… I am pretty sure nothing is!  I worked on his costume a little each night last week (I looked early for the idea but I am really sort of a procrastinator) and am thrilled with how it turned out!  The pattern was not really good at all, thanks Martha Stewart for nothing, but Jamie and I were able to put our heads together and come up with the finished product- if you want to know how we did it feel free to ask but I won’t bore everyone else with the details.

It was a great first Halloween for all of us which included a wagon (nest) ride to visit Jamie’s family and deliver some yummy treats, a visit with Grandma and a few dozen or so photos to document the event…

sunday fun day

If you thought Saturday looked like fun you should be jealous of our Sunday.  To top off our weekend, Jamie, Jay and I spent the majority of our day at Mimi and Pepere’s house hanging out with Aunt Nicole, doing a little bit of swinging, watching Jeremiah cook and filling our bellies with the most delicious food!  Did I mention that Jeremiah is a chef?  Well he is and he’s a darn good one; I think all of us could have been rolled straight from the table to bed that night!  It was such a wonderful (food coma inducing) day filled with family and laughter, and seriously, nothing tops that!

Yesterday, after going through the half gazillion pictures I took (a lot of which were food pictures- btw, I am more of a people-picture-taker than a food photographer but it was fun to try something new) I played around with aperture for a while.  Enjoy a storyboard of sorts from our Sunday…

so far

our weekend has been blissful…

Jamie and I went on a date, we’ve visited with Nicole (who’s in town from NC) with her boyfriend Jeremiah, went to the WP farmers market, put together Jamie’s new grill, played in the park after lunch, read in the hammock outside, played with Jay in the hammock after his nap, played in the dirt (Jay did), walked and played with the animals just to name a few things.  See I told you, blissful!

Enjoy the pics- I don’t have any from the farmers market since I forgot the memory card :-( I even made Jamie run back to the car to grab the (empty) camera- he carried a really nice shoulder accessory the whole time we were there.

warning: excessive amount of pictures below :-)

happy canadian thanksgiving!

Today is Canadian Thanksgiving. So this past Saturday (since we don’t get today off) we all drove out to Mom’s place and celebrated by filling our bellies, taking family pictures and singing Happy Birthday to the two October babies (the outlaws- Jamie and Frannie). It was great to see Scott and Frannie and nice to celebrate as a family; that and we get two turkey dinners a year- what could be better?

Enjoy the pictures, wish we were closer and able to celebrate with everyone up North…

group shot- taken with a timer and therefore no one to get Jay's attention
Mom, Ed and Jay
Uncle Scott, Auntie Frannie and Jay
this one cracks me up- I can't remember what they are laughing at but that combined with Jay's face makes me laugh

most recent family shot of us- love Jay's smile, he is laughing with Auntie Frannie I think

more from Terra Ceia

Time has honestly been getting away from me lately. Other than the usual maintenance of the house (laundry, vacuuming- so Jay isn’t consumed by animal fur, groceries etc) I am not sure where most of my time goes these days. It seems like I wake up, blink and it’s time for bed again. Which is probably why I can’t believe that Jay is 8 months old but that is a whole other post in itself. I guess all I am trying to do is make excuses for why these pictures weren’t posted sooner.  Oh well, I have been enjoying Jay and my family lately- and that’s all the excuse I need.  Enjoy, we certainly did!

recharge needed

This is what my dinning room table currently looks like-

I am so excited that it’s finally fall (technically, not weather wise but I’ll take what I can get) and I have a few projects that I have been wanting to try out.  So, I plan on ignoring anything that I am supposed to be doing right now (Jay is napping- I wouldn’t ignore him too) and taking some time to recharge my batteries.  Will be back later and maybe I’ll have a few pictures of the finished projects.  Happy Fall ya’ll!
