pool time at blue waters

Aside from lounging on the beach I am pretty sure that we spent the majority of our time hanging pool side while at Blue Waters. I think that by the end of the summer Jay might actually grow gills- seriously this little guys loves to swim! He hasn’t finished his swim lessons yet (we actually have quite a few more weeks left) but he can kick his little feet with the best of them.  Luckily Jamie thought to bring his underwater housing for our point and shoot camera so I was able to have a camera with me at all times- yea! Here are a handful of the photos that I got of people enjoying the pool.

the steps of the pool were great for Jay; they had a big handrail and were really wide. He loved climbing in and out of the pool while we were swimming.

Jay really loved to hang out in the showers at Blue Waters, especially after he figured out how to use the foot sprayer all on his own.

the first of the beach photos

Last Sunday (father’s day) Jamie, Jay and I headed down to Blue Waters Beach Club, a beachfront motel on Anna Maria Island, to spend the week with his family.  A week at the beach was a long standing tradition with the Vickers Clan who sat sea side year after year and while they took a break for a few years (10 to be exact) it was such a nice tradition to resume.  Everyone had a wonderful time, enjoying lazy mornings on the beach and in the waves, early afternoons in the shade, dips in the pool before supper, plenty of family meals, amazing sunsets and great conversations long into the night.

We have so many photos from our trip (surprise, surprise) I am not really sure where to even start!  So in an effort to not overwhelm anyone I think I will probably break it out into a few post- you’re welcome, I know you were thinking it ;)

Here you go with the first batch…

daddy time

We all love when Daddy gets home early enough from work to have some real play time; lately he’s only been around for dinner, bath and bedtime (darn those long work hours).  So when he does we all take full advantage :)

This was Thursday night when pony rides were being given around the house- much to Jay Bird’s delight.  Piper was really enjoying it too; she loves when Daddy (or anyone for that matter) is on the floor at her level!  She followed them around the whole house getting the occasional lick in when she could…

This however is Friday night when Jamie came home not feeling really well.  We realized that he had a fever close to 101 and since Jay has been teething and can be pretty cranky they opted for a little snuggle time and Toy Story over pony rides.  Dolce joined in for a snuggle too.

p.s. Jamie’s fever broke sometime Friday night and while he is not feeling 100% yet, he is feeling a whole lot better.

a guys’ weekend

This past weekend, I (Jamie) spent a few days away with extended family. Although not restricted to just my male family members, it somehow turned out that way. I guess none of the women thought that 2+ days of nothing but fishing intermixed with food and drink was appealing. Either that or they don’t enjoy sharing their days with gnats, mosquitoes, yellow flies and no-see-ums. The 10 of us that went had a blast, caught a ton of fish, ate like kings, played countless rounds of pool and generally just enjoyed the company. Below are selected photos from the long weekend. I apologize for not getting pictures of everyone; I blame the fish for distracting me from the camera.

a berry good weekend

I know that it’s already Tuesday but I can’t help but share at least part of our “berry” good weekend with you all!  Jamie took Friday off (yippee for a long weekend) so we had a ton of great time together.  We went to the zoo (more on that later), picked a ton of fresh strawberries and honestly just relaxed and enjoyed our time together.

Saturday we went in search of the Oviedo farmers market; we have been going to the Winter Park farmers market pretty regularly but wanted to try something different this week.  We had directions, we had a location but we still weren’t able to find it.  We ended up at what appeared to be a farm but there certainly wasn’t any market there.  So a little diappointed but not defeated we chalked the farmers market up to a loss and headed onto plan B- strawberries from Pappy’s Patch!!  There is a pick-your-own strawberry (and blueberries, although they aren’t quite in season) patch located in Oviedo that I have been wanting to try and since we were close we decided to go for it.  Man am I sure glad that plan A was a bust!!  It meant that we got to take home this-

and that our house smelled like fresh, sweet strawberries all day long!  It was so much fun we are planning another trip for Friday (Jamie has the day off again- yippee).  Honestly, if you are close by pack up your kiddos (if you have them, if you don’t that just means more for you) and run not walk there…

Jay loved helping us “pick” the berries.  Although, he wasn’t quite on board with the pick and put in the box concept; he was more of a pick-and-eat kind of guy if you know what I mean.  He picked what he could and if he couldn’t get the strawberry off of the bush he just bit it right off- he’s nothing if not resourceful!!  We paid for extra when we were leaving since I am sure he consummed close to a pound while we were picking (check out his shirt if you want proof,  his white shirt was the only downside to this not being a planned outing).

helpful helper…

or monster of a mess?

On Monday, Jamie spent the majority of the day working in the yard, trimming trees, planting grass plugs, getting the gardens ready to be re-planted etc.  After Jay’s second nap we headed outside to join him.  Jay is into everything these days so I quickly tired of trying to keep him clean and in my arms so… I gave in, striped him down to his diaper and just let him go hog wild.  And wild he was- he was a filthy mess by the time we went in for supper but he was pleased as punch with us and himself and that’s all that really matters isn’t it?

party mugs

LOVE is what I have for these photo booth pictures!  I am so happy we ended up doing the photo booth and after taking a look at these I am sure you can probably see why, they are so much fun :-)

By the way, this would be a great post to use the new “slideshow-ish” feature if you wanted- there is a crazy amount of pictures since I couldn’t narrow them down at all.  Just click on the first image below and take a look!

one year old in a flash

On the 27th of January Jay turned one year old!  It is crazy to think of how much our lives have changed over the past year and to see how much Jay has grown.  We didn’t want to let this momentous occasion pass us by so we celebrated in style with a “One Year Old in a Flash” birthday party.  I was super excited a few months back when I ran across the theme idea here– with all of the pictures that we had taken of Jay this year, it was a perfect theme!  Jamie and I decided quite early on that we were going to have one combined (family and friends) party for Jay; so once I had a theme I just kind of ran with it.  I loved every minute of the planning, baking and prep- it’s just so much fun!  I know, I am a dork!

Nan (who is wonderful) made the invitations along with a bunch of other digital files that I used to make printables and help decorate the house- thanks Nan!  We had a photobooth set up outside (I’ll try to get some of those pictures up within the week) to entertain people at the party, balloons in every corner of the house (one of Jay’s favorite “toys” right now), an area for people to leave contributions to his time capsule, drinks in the kitchen and a dessert buffet for our guests to enjoy.  It was so much fun and we are so glad that we had so many people here to celebrate with us.  Enjoy a handful of the pictures!
