my cup runneth over

I sat down a few times today* to write Charlie’s 9 month update but got distracted and while I sit here in the wee hours of the night waiting on my sweet hubby to come home (yes you read that correctly, he is not home from work yet- he has had such a busy week) I find myself overcome with gratitude.  Gratitude for my sweet hard-working husband who puts in way more than he is asked to both at work and at home and gratitude for the sweet healthy babies that are soundly sleeping in the next rooms.  While our days are far from perfect I couldn’t have dreamt up this kind of life for myself in any of my wildest dreams.  I am trying daily to drink it all in and dance in the joy that surrounds me.  My cup runneth over…

And just to give you a glimpse, these are from the first few moments of our morning…

a sweet Daddy, who should have rushed out the door to work but stayed to read a story to a little redheaded boy who asked ever so sweetly to read with him

sweet smiles that greeted me when I plucked this little one from his crib

and a moment that took my breath away- while packing things up to head to the doctor I walked into the other room and when I returned I found a big brother sweetly “reading” to one very attentive and admiring little brother.  The depth to their relationship constantly astounds and delights me.

*While I meant to publish this yesterday I didn’t actually get to before drifting off to sleep. Jamie worked until after 3AM and finally got home about 3:30 and we are really, really looking forward to his day off tomorrow…

precious…

About a week ago, I ran to our room to grab something quickly (leaving Jay alone in the family room) and when I returned the house was super-duper quiet.  This usually means that my little Jay Bird is up to no good so I braced myself for what I would find.  This is what I saw…

So, so  glad that my camera was sitting right there on the counter!

reading

Our little guy loves, loves, loves to climb in your lap and read a book.   Some days we read the same book over and over again and some days he will pull every book we own off of the shelf and have you read them all.  Either way I don’t mind- it’s great cuddle time and honestly the only time he sits still anymore…

I got these photos of him curled up with his blanket and book a few weeks ago, not sure why it’s taken me so long to share them.  He’s precious, just precious…

I also managed to take a few of us reading together, this is what my lap looks like so frequently…

books, babies(or big boys), blankets and the occasional kitty...

The blanket in the above photos is his baby blanket that I finally finished just shortly after Jay’s first birthday (better late than never) and I thought that it might be nice to grab a few photos of him with the blanket.  Ha!  Who was I kidding?   This kiddo is not going to sit still for that any more…

remember how I said he never sits still...

We took so many pictures over the holidays and I have been steadily trying to play catch up.  I have finally sorted through all of our holiday ones so here they are…

projects…

With the holidays right around the corner I have a ton of projects going on throughout the house- really it’s a wonder I find anything I need on my dining room table these days.  I love, love, love making (and getting) homemade gifts; they are so much fun, in my opinion!  I can’t wait until after Christmas so I can show off a few of them to you all.  But until then, check out the what we brought to the party for Leyton yesterday…

I wanted to make Leyton an Airplane coloring book since he loved to color so much the last time I was there and he can't seem to get enough of airplanes- I'd show the front but it wasn't super exciting
pages for the airplane coloring book- aren't they cute planes?! I thought they were adorable; Wally's my favorite :-)

An airplane t-shirt to match the incredibly cute and creative party invitations. The party was an airplane theme party and Nan made the invites look like boarding passes. She's good isn't she?

sunday fun day

If you thought Saturday looked like fun you should be jealous of our Sunday.  To top off our weekend, Jamie, Jay and I spent the majority of our day at Mimi and Pepere’s house hanging out with Aunt Nicole, doing a little bit of swinging, watching Jeremiah cook and filling our bellies with the most delicious food!  Did I mention that Jeremiah is a chef?  Well he is and he’s a darn good one; I think all of us could have been rolled straight from the table to bed that night!  It was such a wonderful (food coma inducing) day filled with family and laughter, and seriously, nothing tops that!

Yesterday, after going through the half gazillion pictures I took (a lot of which were food pictures- btw, I am more of a people-picture-taker than a food photographer but it was fun to try something new) I played around with aperture for a while.  Enjoy a storyboard of sorts from our Sunday…

the library

Yesterday Jay and I packed up in the morning before his first nap (this was either going to work out really well or turn out horribly for me- I chose to believe the first option and went with it) and headed to the library for story time.  Turns out that story time doesn’t start until next week however we enjoyed our time anyway.  There were two other little kids, both at least a year older than Jay, who were running around playing and he couldn’t keep his eyes off of them.  He watched them so intently only occasionally pausing to look at a few pages of a book that I was holding.  While we were there we filled our bag with a handful of stories for the week, got some information about story time, read a few of stories, watched some kids play and then I headed home with a tired little boy in tow… Definitely would say it was a success and the two hour plus nap that Jay took when we got home was an added bonus!

The only “complaint” I have and I really hesitate to even call it that, is that there were so many picture books I didn’t know where to start!  Any suggestions here would be more than welcomed :-)

yes, those are Bill Peet books- he loves them and his Daddy is so happy about that

i think we have created a monster…

I mean that in the best way possible of course, since we have created a book monster!! We read a whole lot of books around our house- Jay loves looking at the pictures while sitting in our lap and listening to us read.  In fact, it has been one of my favorite baby gifts to receive; especially if it is one that the giver loved or remembered as a child!  I love adding to Jay’s library especially with all of the titles that I loved as a child.  The older he gets the more his attention span has grown and I have actually been able to get through some long stories with him lately.  That being said, right now his favorite “book” is his Sassy book- which has no words at all!  He will sit for quite a while and flip through the pages (all on his own) it really truly is so adorable!
