a berry good weekend

I know that it’s already Tuesday but I can’t help but share at least part of our “berry” good weekend with you all!  Jamie took Friday off (yippee for a long weekend) so we had a ton of great time together.  We went to the zoo (more on that later), picked a ton of fresh strawberries and honestly just relaxed and enjoyed our time together.

Saturday we went in search of the Oviedo farmers market; we have been going to the Winter Park farmers market pretty regularly but wanted to try something different this week.  We had directions, we had a location but we still weren’t able to find it.  We ended up at what appeared to be a farm but there certainly wasn’t any market there.  So a little diappointed but not defeated we chalked the farmers market up to a loss and headed onto plan B- strawberries from Pappy’s Patch!!  There is a pick-your-own strawberry (and blueberries, although they aren’t quite in season) patch located in Oviedo that I have been wanting to try and since we were close we decided to go for it.  Man am I sure glad that plan A was a bust!!  It meant that we got to take home this-

and that our house smelled like fresh, sweet strawberries all day long!  It was so much fun we are planning another trip for Friday (Jamie has the day off again- yippee).  Honestly, if you are close by pack up your kiddos (if you have them, if you don’t that just means more for you) and run not walk there…

Jay loved helping us “pick” the berries.  Although, he wasn’t quite on board with the pick and put in the box concept; he was more of a pick-and-eat kind of guy if you know what I mean.  He picked what he could and if he couldn’t get the strawberry off of the bush he just bit it right off- he’s nothing if not resourceful!!  We paid for extra when we were leaving since I am sure he consummed close to a pound while we were picking (check out his shirt if you want proof,  his white shirt was the only downside to this not being a planned outing).

helpful helper…

or monster of a mess?

On Monday, Jamie spent the majority of the day working in the yard, trimming trees, planting grass plugs, getting the gardens ready to be re-planted etc.  After Jay’s second nap we headed outside to join him.  Jay is into everything these days so I quickly tired of trying to keep him clean and in my arms so… I gave in, striped him down to his diaper and just let him go hog wild.  And wild he was- he was a filthy mess by the time we went in for supper but he was pleased as punch with us and himself and that’s all that really matters isn’t it?

can it be Saturday already?

We sure are sorry that Daddy had to head back into the office today.  It has been so nice having him home the last few days (he worked from home Friday and Tuesday and had Monday off).  Here’s hoping that Saturday will hurry up and come soon so we can play again!

beary chilly out…

It has been rather chilly in “Sunny Florida” lately.   I know that it does not compare to the temps in Canada, New York, Asheville, Indianapolis or any other chilly place our readers may reside; however, lows in the 30’s and highs in the 50’s and 60’s is pretty notable for us.  Especially, given that it is only December and we don’t invest very much money into warm weather wear since we only get to drag it from the depths of our closets 2 or 3 times a year or when we vacation.  I always think it is so funny to see what Floridians wear on the coldest days.  It seems to me that they pull every warm thing that they own- matching or not, straight out of the 80’s or not-  out of their closets and put it ALL on at once!!  It’s funny and I could go on and on about it but then I wouldn’t get to show you my cute polar bear nearly as soon as I would like and that would be a shame, so we’re moving on…

My Mom came over the other day with an adorable bear hat and mittens to protect our sweet little boy’s noggin and tiny fingers from the chill.  I mean, it would be tragic (and I think I might have gone crazy being cooped-up) if we couldn’t go outside or take wagon rides because of the cold.  However, you can let out a sigh of relief… tragedy has been averted and I have some adorable (yes I can say that) pictures to prove it!

Enjoy and stay warm :-)

a bow tie!!

I am in love, seriously in love with Jays bow tie!

I saw a pattern to make a bow tie online a few months back and decided that aside from my lack of sewing skills (I am not an exact or calculated person- ask my husband) nothing was stopping me from making one!  So I decided to ask my Mom to borrow her sewing machine, purchased a bit of adorable fabric and gosh darn it if I didn’t make a bow tie!  Please don’t let this give you the false impression that I can really sew, the lines aren’t quite straight and I really, really need to invest in a seam ripper, I just can simply get by in the sewing department… either way I love the end result and you can bet that there will be more!

so far

our weekend has been blissful…

Jamie and I went on a date, we’ve visited with Nicole (who’s in town from NC) with her boyfriend Jeremiah, went to the WP farmers market, put together Jamie’s new grill, played in the park after lunch, read in the hammock outside, played with Jay in the hammock after his nap, played in the dirt (Jay did), walked and played with the animals just to name a few things.  See I told you, blissful!

Enjoy the pics- I don’t have any from the farmers market since I forgot the memory card :-( I even made Jamie run back to the car to grab the (empty) camera- he carried a really nice shoulder accessory the whole time we were there.

warning: excessive amount of pictures below :-)

i heart these pictures

this is the last group that I have to post from Terra Ceia and they are some of my favorites…

Jamie and I took Jay out on the dock around dusk before we gave him his bath and packed up to leave for the evening.  The sky was so pretty, the light was wonderful and Jay was having a grand old time peeking over the benches on the dock.  I think these pictures capture his curiosity and love for nature so nicely…

more from Terra Ceia

Time has honestly been getting away from me lately. Other than the usual maintenance of the house (laundry, vacuuming- so Jay isn’t consumed by animal fur, groceries etc) I am not sure where most of my time goes these days. It seems like I wake up, blink and it’s time for bed again. Which is probably why I can’t believe that Jay is 8 months old but that is a whole other post in itself. I guess all I am trying to do is make excuses for why these pictures weren’t posted sooner.  Oh well, I have been enjoying Jay and my family lately- and that’s all the excuse I need.  Enjoy, we certainly did!

big fright by a little bird

**To begin with- nothing happened to Jay, he’s fine completely!  I realized when I looked at the first draft title  (big fright by a little guy) that people would think I was talking about Jay so I changed “guy” to “bird” and realized that too wouldn’t distinguish it any better.  So instead of spending tons of time trying to figure out a different title I am just going to add the disclaimer upfront.**

This morning while playing with Jay and following his little-crawling-self around the house I heard a huge thud on come from the kitchen.  It sounded like when the cats chase lizards on the other side of windows so I was curious to see what they had found.  However, what I saw instead was no kitties in the kitchen at but a little bird flapping upside down on the ground outside like a maniac.  This of course freaked me out and I went to get my phone to message Jamie asking what to do.  By the time I sent the first message he had flipped himself over and squished himself up close to the window so I couldn’t see him very well unless I went outside (which I wasn’t going to do with a dog and a baby at my feet).  So I just sent another message to Jamie.  Well Blackberry messenger was especially slow this morning and he didn’t get any of the messages until 30 minutes later when I sent another after putting Jay to bed and hoping that the bird would fly away on his own (he hadn’t).  At this point Jamie got the messages and gave me a call- bless him because I was really starting to worry and freak out.  While talking to Jamie I went outside to get a picture of it to send to him and when I did this the little guy kind of came out of his daze and started to look around frantically.  Before I could snap a picture he took off and landed in the closest tree.  He was flying pretty shakily and landed low in a tree right above our neighbors cat (I scared the kitty away) so I figured he wasn’t all the way back to normal.  So I went back inside to grab a big camera (not my phone) to snap a few pictures and wait until he flew again.  He did and all is well with the world again.

Here’s a picture of my little trouble maker.  Not sure what he is, anybody have an idea?
