such a special day

I am delighted to share a few photos from the beautiful wedding Jamie, Jay and I got to be a part of last weekend. On Friday the 4th Jamie’s cousin married her long time boyfriend Josh in what can only be described as the perfect day! The weather was beautiful, the bride was even more so, the details were thoughtful and springy and the whole day was just so full of love and joy! Maggie and Josh, we truly couldn’t be happier for the two of you and were so honored to be a part of your special day.

While there were SO many things and moments that I would have loved the opportunity to photograph at this wedding I simply didn’t get the chance. It has been so long since I have attended, much less participated in, a wedding that I didn’t photograph! However, I did get a handful of photos that I love. So please excuse the ridiculous amount of photos I am about to share. I really had way too many favorites to narrow it down any further than I did!

Every January as I look back at our year I can’t help but feel so incredibly blessed. We have had a wonderful 2013 and I can’t wait to see what 2014 is going to bring!

halloween 2013

I have been meaning to post more photos and a few details of the our adorable zoo; however, time just keeps getting away from me! We were down and out for almost 3 weeks right around halloween (preschool germs are nasty) but now that we are finally on the tail end of things and naps are happening (fairly consistently) again I have had a little more “free” time- so here it is, I am sure you were holding your breath ;)

Our inspiration for this year’s costumes was this adorable book, Goodnight Gorilla, and one very sweet little boy who is (although not as much as he used to be) obsessed with keys! I had a vague idea of how I wanted the costumes to look but mostly I wanted to make sure that the boys wouldn’t sweat to death in them if we had a hot halloween. I enlisted the help of my very talented seamstress Mother-in-law to do the hoodie sewing- I really love to sew but please, oh please don’t ask me to make something that someone is going to have to wear! Exact measurements and patterns (clothing patterns specifically) are SO not my thing. However, Mimi is amazing and helped make my crazy ideas the adorable reality that they were. The long and the short of it is that we purchased a hoodie pattern and she adapted it to be sleeveless and then I added the details, mane, gorilla muscles, and a made the mouse ears too! The hardest part of it all, at least in my opinion, was getting Jay to stand still enough for me to adjust the mane and keep it out of his eyes!

Since I adore halloween photos of the kids in their costumes last year I decided to do a pre-Halloween photo shoot with all of them so I am not worried about getting photos of them in their costumes while we are running around trying to get out of the door to trick or treat. Honestly, if you have little ones I would totally recommend it, it’s been the best decision yet! I cherish the photos that I have gotten the last few years and will continue to do it until the kiddos decide otherwise. I did have to take a few more of my Gorilla and Mouse during a second photo shoot since they were still feverish and under the weather during the original shoot so if you see a little change in expression from one photo to the other, that is why.

Enjoy!

date night

I stumbled upon this post while trying to clean up the draft area on my blog. It is ridiculously old, the date happened before I was pregnant with Luc, however, the photos and experience still amuse the heck out of me so enjoy and think of it as a flashback of sorts ;)

A few weekends (ha- more like months ago at this point) ago Jamie and I got the opportunity to head out for a date!  Like a REAL date- one where we went to dinner just the two of us, one where I got to sit through the whole supper, one where we didn’t have to feed anyone or cut anyones food but our own, one where we didn’t have to yell at each other just to hear over the babbling baby and non-stop-talking toddler. It was SO nice, like really nice and it was a little amusing to boot.

We went to  see Brave at the theater (it has been out for weeks so we were the only one in the theater until a family came in right as it was starting) and then we grabbed a bite to eat.  I suggested we head somewhere a little different and decided to go to a place called Bananas on the recommendation of a friend.  Well different is definitely what we got!  Unbeknownst to us (we didn’t see the huge rainbow flag a flying as we walked into the restaurant) all of the watresses dress in drag at Bananas so we were served by Cocoa (see below).  We laughed about it pretty much the whole meal, which was really good by the way, and then saw the rainbow flag as we headed out of the restaurant on our way home.  It definitely wasn’t what we expected but the night out was fun all the same.

friday phone dump

It certainly has been a good long while since I did a Friday phone dump. These days I try to keep our DSLR around at all times to capture the moments of our days; however, with three littles around that sometimes just isn’t possible so I capture a lot of our days on my camera phone. Here’s just a little taste of our ordinary which is pretty extraordinary.
