such a big boy

It seems like every time I turn around these days Jay is doing something that makes me stop and think- wow, he’s getting so big!!  I know that he is getting closer to 6 months old but does he have to grow up so quickly??

Some of his new tricks include… (sorry, but I don’t have photos of them all)

Picking up his paci and putting it in his mouth (most of the time he even gets it in the correct way!)

Rolling over from his tummy to his back- I know that he was supposed to roll this way first but what can I say our kiddo is unique ;-)

Reaching for just about anything you have or anything that he wants.  This also causes him to “flip” out of any lap or boppy he is sitting in; it really is good that I have cat like reflexes.

Entertaining/playing by himself.

Sitting up on his own.

Playing in his bed after waking up from a nap.  Yesterday, when I went to get him from his nap I walked into to see this…

he was talking, playing (with Jenny and his blanket) and pushing up so far on his hands that I thought he would get up on his hands and knees.  It won’t be long now until that happens since he can already get his knee up pretty far.  He also does not stay where you put him anymore; his head was at the other end of his bed when he went to sleep…

Holding his own bottle.

Opening wide for a spoonful of cereal- it took him a few days to really get used to this whole “food” thing (we had to dance and jump around to get him to smile and open up) but now he is eating like a champ!  He will open really wide when he sees the spoon coming.  He has gotten so good that we have increased the amount of food we give him from 1tbsp to 2tbps, he would gobble down the one tbsp and be looking for more (Daddy’s hollow leg was indeed inherited).

I am loving every minute with him right now; seriously can’t get enough of his cuteness!!

bowl full of mush

Last Tuesday night (06-29) Jamie and I decided to try giving Jay rice cereal.  At our last Doctor’s visit the Doctor recommended trying it sometime after he turned 5 moths old so he could get used to eating and having food put in his mouth.  Up until this point he has been exclusively breast fed via the bottle or the milk truck (Daddy’s really sweet nickname for me) so I wasn’t sure how he would take to it but he did fabulously!  The first couple of bites came straight back out but as soon as he got the hang of it he was putting it down the hatch rather quickly, all the while giggling and laughing.  I may have to take this back later but I think that he has inherited our taste buds and isn’t going to be that picky of an eater.  I know for sure that he has already inherited his Daddy’s appetite…

some pre-supper entertainment while Mommy got the camera ready
hey, what's that?
first bite
not so sure about it yet
more please!
got the hang of this stuff and lovin' it now!!
Dolce is never far from the action...
a very full and happy boy!

rollin’ rollin’ rollin’

Up until this point we have been carrying Jay pretty much everywhere we go; either in a Bjorn or my carrier.  It has been really convenient and I have actually loved it.  However, since he is getting heavier and because it is so hot outside carrying him has become less comfortable.  Don’t believe me- strap a heated 15lb weight to your chest and head out for a walk and let me know if you’re comfy…

That being said, from day one Jay has disliked his car seat and, therefore, his snap and go stroller- it’s the same chair and all so it’s understandable.  I hesitated to use the travel system stroller that was lent to us by his Aunt and Uncle since it was pretty big and bulky but after sweating to death one day last week while wearing him I asked Jamie to pull it out for me.  Boy am I glad that I did!  Jay loves, loves, loves it!  I think that he could honestly hang out in that thing all day long if he needed to. He’ll prop one leg up on the tray in front of him and sit back and relax for the whole ride.  Makes me really excited for when we can turn his car seat around since I am sure that he will prefer riding that way in the car too.

excited about his "new" ride!

i scream, you scream

we all scream for Yogurt!! Yogurt just doesn’t have the same ring to it that Ice Cream does; however, it was yummy just the same…

Yesterday, Jamie and I took Jay and Piper over to Baldwin Park, grabbed some frozen yogurt and walked around the lake a little bit.  They have just opened up one of those “you top it” yogurt places in near the Publix in Baldwin Park and I wanted to try it out (I really just needed an excuse to have soft serve frozen yogurt).  It was a very nice treat on such a hot day and a wonderful end to our three day weekend, I am sure it will be something that we don’t do just once…

Can I please have some, pretty please!! He has been reaching for the camera frequently when I photograph him so I have a few of these type of shots- good thing I think they are cute!

5 month stats

I know these are a little late but we finally got around to measuring and weighing the little guy and for posterity’s sake I figured that I should post it…

Also, it’s giving me the opportunity to post some of the other pictures from his 5 month photo shoot.  He loves playing with (eating) these foam letters and numbers!

Height: 25 inches (a 1/2 inch per month apparently is his standard monthly growth)

Weight: 15lbs 4oz

minus the fireworks…

Jamie, Jay and I had a wonderful 4th of July.  We spent our day sleeping-in a little (not because Jay slept longer- he was up at 5 and again at 7, so we all crawled in for his first nap of the day), we went for a walk with the two dogs after getting up, it was hot but enjoyable with a stop at Grandpa and Grandma’s house and we finished the day with a cook-out at our place.  Jamie grilled burgers and dogs and we had corn, watermelon and crust-less cheesecake for dessert with peaches and blueberries-yum!!

We are headed to bed now to get some shut eye with hopes that the dogs and Jay can sleep through all of the fireworks, maybe we’ll enjoy those with Jay next year… Goodnight and happy 4th!

a great group shot of the supper crew before we filled our bellies :-)

By the way… Jay was wearing a super cute “first 4th of July” outfit; however, he decided to spring a leak on it before we could get any pictures of him in it.  Maybe I will grab some of him in it tomorrow, just to show that it was worn.

angel face

With the temperatures the way they are Jamie, Jay and I have spent a fair amount of time in the pool lately.  Two weekends ago we hung out with Kiley’s (an old high school friend of Jamie’s).  It was great to see them and for them to meet Jay.  We hung out in their pool for most of the afternoon and Jay flat-out crashed when we got home!  Jamie and I let him sleep for quite awhile but when he got within an hour of his bedtime we figured we that we needed to wake him so he could eat and get ready for bed again.  When we went into his room we could have marched in there will a full band and he wouldn’t have known the difference- sweet boy.  So of course, I grabbed my camera and got a few of his sweet angel face.  Makes me wish I could just crawl in there with him… love this kid!

bed head

I apologize in advance for the obnoxious amount of pictures that I am about to post- consider yourself warned!

a teaser for you to keep you reading ;-)
one more...

Jay crashed in the car on the way home from one of our daily outings last week. Fortunately, I was able to transfer him from his car seat to his bed where he stayed for another 20 minutes.  This is not great, as far as good napping goes, but it is leaps and bounds above where we were a month ago.  When I got him from his room after he woke up I noticed the terrible case of bed-head that plagued his sweet little noggin’ and thought to my self “oh no, it’s begun!”  If you have ever seen his father when he first wakes up or me for that matter, you will know what I am talking about.  We were not blessed with tame hair and apparently we felt that it was our duty to pass this on to Jay.  He doesn’t have a ton of hair right now so the fact that it is standing straight up on end is rather impressive in my opinion.  It wasn’t easy to get a good picture of it standing up every which-a-way but in trying to get one good picture of the hair I got a ton of pictures of Jay that crack me up… enjoy!

what you lookin' at
I want that, can I have that?
I'm cute, can I please have it?
