i think we have created a monster…

I mean that in the best way possible of course, since we have created a book monster!! We read a whole lot of books around our house- Jay loves looking at the pictures while sitting in our lap and listening to us read.  In fact, it has been one of my favorite baby gifts to receive; especially if it is one that the giver loved or remembered as a child!  I love adding to Jay’s library especially with all of the titles that I loved as a child.  The older he gets the more his attention span has grown and I have actually been able to get through some long stories with him lately.  That being said, right now his favorite “book” is his Sassy book- which has no words at all!  He will sit for quite a while and flip through the pages (all on his own) it really truly is so adorable!

green eyes…

I haven’t gotten a chance to post these adorable squishy pics of Jay that I took a few weeks ago.  I love, love, love them- every time I see them they make me smile!!!  We (I) was just playing around with our 50mm lens during the afternoon (I opened up all of the blinds to let the sunshine in) and what I discovered was Jay Bird’s green eyes!  His eyes are most definitely shaped like his Daddy’s but they are getting greener by the day- check out the last one for proof of where he gets them from :-)

Sorry for the overload of pics, I couldn’t just pick one or two of the naked squishy baby pics :-)

silly boy- Daddy's favorite from the day :-)

not a great self-portrait but maybe you can tell where he got his eye color from in this one :-)

announcing

So I was finally able to finish sending out Jay’s birth announcements last week. I feel horrible about not getting them out sooner- people will understand right? At least I hope they will. I mean when you just have a baby you don’t have time to address a ton (yup, there were a ton) of envelopes and then run to the post office. I am crossing my fingers that we have understanding family and friends.

My dear, dear and talented friend Nan designed the announcements for us and they turned out fabulously! She made two for us to choose from but since I couldn’t choose we ordered some of each- love, love, love them!

Here are some other pictures from that shoot that I love. It’s so hard to believe that he was this tiny once, where did my tiny baby go? Btw- Jay was 7 days old in these pictures.

a little view into what Jay sees, a lot!

P.S. The beautiful blanket that we used in these pictures was made by Jay’s very talented Mimi :-)

i am a geek

A baking geek (and a photo geek) but a geek never the less.  I absolutely love to bake!!  I love the kitchen smelling of fresh ________, (fill in the blank here), I love recipes, I love giving away what I make, I love trying new things. However, if you have ever met my hubby you will know that he does not have a sweet tooth unless the “sweet” is in the form of bread or muffins.  From time to time the lack of an audience can be problematic but I usually can find someone to take the baked goods off of our hands…

That all being said this past Sunday was a very nice treat for me- I got to spend some time in the kitchen!  Jamie went to the grocery store with me in the early afternoon (also a nice treat) and then watched Jay- such a sweet man, so I could bake.  His reward?? Fresh, from scratch wheat bread!  I had a ton of fun making, kneeding it, watching it rise and double in size, then rolling it and twisting it into fun bun shapes!  Besides nothing beats the smell of fresh bread in your house…

I took a few pictures of the process, I am not a step by step picture taking baker (I get caught up and forget). So sorry- but you’ll get the idea…

the dough after it had risen for the first time
punching down the dough- I had to look up what that meant :-)
the dough rolled into clover shaped buns
after the second rising
baked and yummy looking

The next one is not baking but rather Jamie’s contribution to our Sunday dinner.  He though that it was a pretty funny contrast between the two things; mine was delicate freshly made bread and his was two slabs of meat… so I took a picture of it- here you go dear.

btw- his contribution was very yummy!

The bread recipe was from the blog Frugal Girl.  Check it out some time if you get a chance she has some good stuff on there.  Just in case you are wondering 2 dozen rolls were baked on Sunday and two rolls are left- I told you he doesn’t have a sweet tooth but bread doesn’t stand a chance around here!

love like crazy…

There is a new (I think, we don’t get out that much) song on the radio lately that I have really enjoyed.  Frequently, I get so caught up in everything that I forget to stop and enjoy the here and now.  The unfortunate part about that is that my here and now is pretty amazing.  For whatever reason this song made me stop and think about how much time I am wasting, maybe I should take some advice from this country artist…

Love Like Crazy by Lee Brice

chorus:

be a best friend
tell the truth
and over use I love you
go to work
do your best
don’t out smart your common sense
never let your prayin’ knees get lazy
and love like crazy

I hope you all enjoy your day off with family and friends and get a chance to love like crazy!

I know I certainly will...
