look what I can do!

I am seriously in trouble now- Jay is crawling!!!!  Forget being able to set him in one place and know that he will stay there, forget thinking that we should baby proof the house- heck, we NEED to now; this kids on the move!!

For a few weeks now he has been army crawling (putting his arms out in front of him and dragging his behind afterward) around the house to get wherever and whatever he wants.  Jamie and I kept thinking that “real” crawling was right around the corner and we were right.  Over the weekend he decided to give up on the military and go for the full out crawl!  Both Jamie and I were home to witness this milestone making it that much more fun.  It has been so wonderful and amazing to watch this whole learning process- first learning to reach and roll, to sitting and flopping down on his belly, then the army crawl to finally full out crawling.  He still is primarily army crawling as of right now, it gets him where he wants to go much faster since coordination of arms and legs hasn’t quite been mastered yet, but I am sure it won’t be long until this is his preferred method of transportation.  And while I love watching him discover new tricks I am unsure of just what he will try to “discover” now given his new found freedom- all I know is that I am sure he will give me a run for my money!

Here’s a short clip of the real crawl- I only got a bit of it on video.  Jamie and I were too busy watching him the first few times to think of grabbing a camera and then when I did he didn’t really want to cooperate.  Oh well, enjoy what’s here and know that we are one very proud Mommy and Daddy…

relaxing…

Jamie and I decided to bite the bullet and head down to Terra Ceia for Jay’s first overnight trip this weekend.  I was nervous about making the trip and I am sure I packed way more than we actually need to have here but all I can say is that it has been bliss!  The ride down went far better than either one of us could have hoped and we have all loved getting away.  There are a ton of new things for Jay to check out including his first trip out on the dock and first time “fishing” with Pepere and Daddy .  Hope you all are enjoying your weekend as much as we are…

Warning: there are excessive amount of pictures to come.  It was, after all, Jay’s first trip to Terra Ceia which is huge and needed to be well documented (and this is only pictures from the first day)…

watching Pepere fish
fishie, fishie
love, love, love this one!!
hanging out on the dock
not a stellar picture but you can see two of Jay's three teeth in it and aside from that take a look at those lashes!

updated…

I finally remembered to measure Jay yesterday (I kept thinking about it when he was napping or after he had gone to bed on Saturday), so here are the stats…

Weight: 17lbs (on the dot)

Height: 27 inches long

He apparently was going for all of the stats with “7” in them for his 7th month…

As for the crawling- it hasn’t happened yet although, the face plant and drag your body army crawl is in full swing :-)

And since all posts are better with a picture… here are a few that I took the other day while attempting to capture of the above mentioned “crawling”.

sorry for the diaper shots, we were playing just before bath time...

sorry for the full booty shot but it's the only angle that I got that shows the face plant move

the library

Yesterday Jay and I packed up in the morning before his first nap (this was either going to work out really well or turn out horribly for me- I chose to believe the first option and went with it) and headed to the library for story time.  Turns out that story time doesn’t start until next week however we enjoyed our time anyway.  There were two other little kids, both at least a year older than Jay, who were running around playing and he couldn’t keep his eyes off of them.  He watched them so intently only occasionally pausing to look at a few pages of a book that I was holding.  While we were there we filled our bag with a handful of stories for the week, got some information about story time, read a few of stories, watched some kids play and then I headed home with a tired little boy in tow… Definitely would say it was a success and the two hour plus nap that Jay took when we got home was an added bonus!

The only “complaint” I have and I really hesitate to even call it that, is that there were so many picture books I didn’t know where to start!  Any suggestions here would be more than welcomed :-)

yes, those are Bill Peet books- he loves them and his Daddy is so happy about that

teeth!

Last Thursday Jay’s first tooth finally popped through the gum and made it’s appearance.  Jamie didn’t believe me that it was actually through the gum until I showed him the mark Jay had accidentally left on my finger and made him feel for himself! Jay has been working on them for a few weeks now, bless his heart.  This means that you can tell they occasionally bother him, although he hasn’t been super fussy, and sleeping in general has been a little less predictable (sometimes he naps wonderfully, sometimes he doesn’t/ sometimes he sleeps through the night, sometimes not so much).  All in all it hasn’t been a horrible experience aside from knowing that he is hurting.  He is working on one more, the bottom front right one, and I hope it will make it’s appearance either before or sometime during this weekend and then maybe the little guy can catch a break for awhile.  Until then, cold teethers and ice cubes are our friends :-)

He also really likes for us to brush his teeth with the baby tooth brush that I bought.  I am sure that it just feels really good on those gums…

check out how long those red locks are getting!
isn't he sweet? so darling and such a good boy!

I’ll be sure to post a picture as soon as I am able to get one; not sure how soon that will be- he’s pretty guarded about them right now.

the trip home

Here’s another flashback for ya…

These pictures are from when we were packing up at the hospital and heading home as a family of three for the first time.  I had brought one of my favorite outfits (the roots outfit that my Grandma and Auntie Deb gave us) for Jay to go home from the hospital in; however there wasn’t even a prayers chance that he would have fit into it!  As it is, the blue monkey outfit that he wore home was swallowing him whole and it was a newborn onesie!  I love his little squishy faces in some of these pictures- so cute.  I can still hear the little noises that he used to make, man he didn’t make those for long…

one year ago today…

One year ago today I took one of these (the first of many for my unbelieving eyes)…

I loved that the one said "yes" it's like pregnancy tests for dummies :-)

and it said that we were going to have one of these…

first pics of sweet baby Jay

Over the next nine months I did this…

It really is hard to believe that I was this big at one point (these are the last pictures that we have of me before Jay was born).

please excuse the scowl, apparently I was uncomfortable- how quickly we forget!

Even if I don’t remember being that big I do remember how it amused me so to take pictures of my feet poking out from my belly…

see, it really is an amusing view :-)

114 days ago from today (and 251 days from May 21, 2009- if you are one to count) we became this…

first picture as a family of three

One year ago today I couldn’t imagine having this little guy in my life and now I can’t imagine my life without him…

so in love with this little fella

So what this all boils down to is that one year ago today Jamie and I were blessed…

splish-splash

Jamie and I had a wonderful long weekend; I hated to see him leave for work this morning!  Granted I usually don’t like when he has to leave in the morning regardless of how long the weekend was.  We enjoyed some wonderful time as a family and also some wonderful time with family.  Jay also had his first dip in the pool this weekend!  I have many more pictures to share from his swim but I am busily trying to hack away at some of my work this week so I’ll tease you with just one from the day.

the best gift!

Today, on Mother’s Day, I am reminded of just how very blessed I am.  I couldn’t ask for a better husband and Daddy to Jay or for anything more in a son.  Since the very first moment that he came into this world Jay has captured my heart and I continue to love him more and more each day.  I have had the most wonderful day with my two guys and Jay gave me the best Mother’s Day gift- his first real laugh!  I love the sound of babies laughing; however, when the laugh comes from your child it is the most amazing sound on Earth!!

By the way, we were lucking enough to have the video camera rolling when he laughed.  So you really are seeing his first laugh in this video!
