can I go with you Daddy?? Pretty, pretty please…

A few weeks ago I needed to put Jay down so I could wash my face and well just get ready in the morning. So I put him on the bed on top of his play mat and while he fussed (half heartedly) for a little bit I returned to find this…

He was sleeping like a baby all sprawled out and angelic looking. You must understand that other than in the evenings this was the longest time that Jay had ever slept/napped on his own (not being held) since coming into this world. I was ecstatic!! It lasted only 25 minutes but those 25 minutes were heaven sent! Not only did it mean that he was capable of sleeping on his own, it meant that I would eventually be able to get some things done around the house and maybe even go to the bathroom on my own; it meant that napping was a possibility- woohoo!! Since then, Jamie and I have purchased the book, Healthy Sleep Habits, Healthy Child (recommended by some seasoned parents- thanks Chuck and Jenn) and have been trying out some of its advice. The advice that tells you to let them cry, themselves to sleep- I hate it, it’s horrible!! It is all I can do to stand around and listen to his wails on the monitor. I anxiously count down the minutes until I am “allowed” to go in and soothe him again.
Piper has been funny about the whole napping thing. She normally follows me around everywhere I go during the day; this can be troublesome when she is so close that I almost trip over her but in general I love it. A few days ago I left Jay in his cradle to fall asleep (cry) and when I called for Piper to come with me she wouldn’t budge! She stayed with Jay the whole time while he was crying and through his nap (15 minutes) afterward. She is such a sweet girl…

We (mainly I) have relapsed a few times and let him sleep on us either when we are out and can not put him down or when it’s easier not to. Sometimes he is just too darn cute to put down. Seriously, I could cuddle with this kid all day long if he would let me… that and I can’t bare to hear his screams when I do put him down. That being said, cross your fingers and say a prayer that I can make it through this “training” otherwise I will have to invent a contraption that holds sleeping teenagers…

Sunday was a special day in the Perreault Household- on Sunday, Piper turned 3 years old!! That’s huge, in puppy-dog-years she is 21 and can now purchase her own drinks. Not that she would, I am just saying…
Jay wanted to celebrate, celebrate in style- hats were a necessity!

On a side note- Jamie, Jay and I went for our first picnic together that afternoon. Jay ate before we left and in the car at the park (yippee for the portability of breast feeding) and Jamie and I were able to spread the blanket out long enough (just long enough) to quickly eat our sandwiches under the shade of a tree. This is counted as a success in my book- progress is being made in our house since we can actually get out of the house now! We were also able to walk around the garden (Mead Gardens) and boardwalk while we were there- glorious, just glorious!!

Kisses are something that are given frequently around this house and Piper is no exception. She and Jay were hanging out the other day after his Duke photo shoot and you can tell from the pictures below that they have certainly adjusted well to each other. By the way for all of you concerned Mamas out there, I did clean Jay off after his kisses :-)

that you had as wonderful of a weekend as we did!
We lounged around…

We spent time with friends and family…

We cooked and ate a bunch…

We snoozed…

and snoozed some more…

We hung out in the hammock…

We went for our first stroller ride…

We documented our first Easter as a family…

and we posed by our new Easter basket…

I have been told from time to time that people like to watch basketball. Being from Canada I am not sure that I will ever fully understand this obsession; however, we did see last night’s victory as a perfect time to debut the first in our line of collegiate apparel. Congrats Dukies (not sure if that is an actual name or just a Vickers-ism) on your win last night!!

there’s a tongue in there!! A few weeks ago Jay found his tongue. It’s like one day he woke up and realized that there was something in his mouth that moved, or rather something in there that he could move. Ever since then he has been sticking it out and moving it around frequently. It’s cute now but later it might not be…
these ones don’t have any tongue action going on but they are cute just the same :-)

Have a mentioned before that I really do love wearing this kiddo? It makes him so portable and snugly and what could be better?! I was looking through some “older” photos and found these couple gems that I couldn’t resist sharing.

Peek

A

Boo!

Jay is growing like a bad weed, changing before out eyes and getting cuter by the minute!! Yup you guessed it (or maybe you didn’t- we won’t judge) but last Saturday he turned a whooping two months old!!! It really is hard to believe how much he has grown and changed in these mere two months; although, we do have a few gazillion pictures or so to remind us when we forget…
Jamie and I took Jay to his two month Doctor appointment yesterday. He was checked out from head to toe, weighed, measured and given 3 shots and an “oral” shot. His appointment went really well aside from the shots- I cried, he screamed and Jamie thanked him for calming down as soon as they would let me pick him up (it was exactly what I needed to feel better about the whole thing). Call me a wuss but I absolutely hated watching while they jabbed his adorable chubby legs. The rest of the day he was a little more fussy than normal, his legs were sore so he couldn’t get comfortable (we think) and he ran a very low grade fever. It wasn’t great but it could have been far worse, however, it did confirm that I will officially be a wreck the first time that Jay really gets sick.
Some things of note:
* He is growing like a bad weed!! He measured in at 11lbs 4oz and 23 inches long yesterday- can you say oink, oink!
* He discovered his tongue this month and loves to stick it in and out at whomever will look his way.
* He smiles- frequently! It is melt-your-heart cute when he looks you in the eye and gives you a huge smile.
* He also smiles when he sleeps- it is the cutest most peaceful half smile you will ever see and it makes me wonder what he is dreaming about.
* He found his hands but hasn’t quite found his thumb. He likes to touch/ rub his fingers on my side when he is feeding or when he is in his carrier.
* He stretches for about 2 minutes after he wakes up, all the while making scrunchy faces.
* He is generally sleeping about 5 hours a night. He has really taken to his bedtime routine- of shower, bottle (with breast milk), changing his diaper if needed, putting on PJ’s, then swaddle and a kiss from Mommy and after it he is pretty quickly out like a light.
* He snores, really loudly.
* He farts, also really loudly. Seriously, Jamie could start blaming his on Jay if he wanted too.
* First thing in the morning is one of his happiest times during the day. He will play, talk and smile for a long time after he is finished feeding. This really does make the early mornings more bearable.
Likes:
* Being outside- all you have to do is walk outside (on a nice sunny day), it never fails to calm him down when he is upset.
* Shower time!! Every night he gets a shower before bed time and practically falls a sleep on Daddy’s lap before they are through.
* Playing Peek-a-Boo. He grins, laughs and coo’s so you’ll do it again.
* Kicking his feet. He loves to play on his play mat and kick his feet vigorously.
* His friend the fan. He loves to look up at it, smile and coo.
* Looking around. He is very curious about his surroundings and loves to take everything in.
* His carrier, Mommy’s arms are thankful for this since he has been packing on the pounds.
* Cuddling. Something Mommy is a huge fan of!
Dislikes:
* Driving in the Car (it can be hit or miss), especially when no one is in the back seat with him. He will scream at the top of his lungs and hold his breath effectively stressing Mommy out- I have even pulled over and tried to calm him a few times.
* Being hungry- he will scream like we are torturing him if he gets hungry or we take the bottle away to burp him.
* Wet diapers- we no longer need the blue wet indicator on the diapers because he will let us know when he is wet.
* Tummy Time- currently he hates being put on his stomach unless he is lying on someone. We are supposed to give him tummy-time daily, this is not a fun time.
