Luc,

So this update is a little overdue however, every time I think of just skipping it I change my mind. I want to remember these days, these moments because kiddo you are too darn sweet right now. You are adorable and sweet but you are trouble and spoiled rotten all at the same time. It’s my fault, I can’t really say no to you at all sweet boy. You, your sweet smile and head full of curls have my number kiddo!

We celebrated your half birthday in January with half of a cake per the usual fashion and while I was taking photos of you, you crawled up onto the table and plopped yourself right down next to the cake. I have taken a bunch of 1/2 birthday photos over the years all from the same chair at the same table and neither of your bothers have even considered climbing up. Jay didn’t probably because he knew better and we would have gotten after him, Charlie didn’t because he is a rule follower and super cautious but not you, you climbed right up and smiled all the while! You are the baby right now… what can I say?! You like to do the things that your brothers are doing. You ride your plasma car along side them (being towed when your legs just aren’t fast enough to keep up), you “climb” the climber as high as you are able or just hang and dangle for as long as your little arms will let you. You eat better than the big boys right now devouring everything that is put in front of you; although Mac and Cheese and fruit, specifically blueberries, top the list right now. You know every gosh darn thing that we are saying to you but refuse to speak for yourself. Luc, you will follow directions to a tee, even ones with multiple complex (for your age) steps but won’t say words. We are working with you and while I know that you could do it you don’t really have a need to (your brothers and everyone else have you covered) and that works for you right now. You love books a ton; finding every chance you can to climb up into someones lap with a book. You really can convince anyone to read to you, even your bothers. Your favorite has got to be Find Momo, it’s sort of a Where’s Waldo but only way cooler. You have to find Momo (the dog) within these gorgeous photos and you love it and are so good at it (even before you had done it multiple times). Really the only word (I take back the fact that he doesn’t speak at all) you say regularly is Momo. You still love bath time and enjoy splashing and drinking the tub water much to your Daddy’s dislike. You sleep like a champ and are ridiculously laid back. Right now you have a really big attachment to your blanket (one that I made for you with a super soft backing), your paci and a blue stuffed dog. Frequently you are drag them all around the house together which is a large feat seeing as how big they are. It’s cute and such a wonderful reminder of what a great mix of your brothers you are. Jay was a paci kid, Charlie still is a blanket kid and while I know that’s somewhat of a silly reminder since those are just things, it reminds me of what a great blend of those two boys you are while at the same time being your own wonderful little person.

Luc, I love this age – 18 months give or take – it’s no secret. I adore all of the sweetness that comes with it; the hugs you so graciously give and the smiles that come without prompting. I continue to revel in the fact at I get to be your Mommy and can’t wait to see all that is to come.

I love you sweet boy!!

Love,
Momma

Charlie Tuna,
As per usual, I am having a hard time grasping that one of my babies is turning another year older! I think that is is something that Mommy will have a hard time with regardless of the kiddo and regardless of the age. Sorry buddy, you’ll just have to get used to the ridiculously long birthday hugs followed by me asking “are your sure you’re THREE (or whatever age you currently are) years old, I don’t believe it?!?!!”

If we are starting with true honestly here I will tell you that three is by far not my favorite age… Newborns are cute and cuddly, one year olds adorable, funny and still cuddly, two is when you start to talk and your personality shines and well three, while it has some major perks, it is tough!!! You know how to use your words but you choose not to a lot of the time. Opting for either full-out banshee screaming or mutters, grunts and foot stamping when you don’t get what you want or even sometimes when you do. Really there is no predicting it sweet boy. Some nights for supper I give you options, you’ll choose exactly what you want to eat and then refuse to have even one bite when the exact thing you requested is placed in front of you. This happens when you aren’t given the choice as well, just in case you are curious. I guess the most predictable thing about three (and by the way you are advanced and started your decent in to full on threes a few months early- I am hoping this means you will find your way out of them sooner as well) is that nothing, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING is predictable about you dear boy. It’s true; one day you want a nap and hop right up in bed and crash nearly immediately, the next day you spend 20 minutes screaming at the door (in full banshee mode, as referred to earlier) until you pass out on the floor waking for another round within 15/20 minutes after you crashed. Sometimes you want to play with your brothers/share and act ridiculously silly with them. Other times, the mere sight of them throws you over the edge! Sometimes you hop into the car eager to take whatever car ride we currently are taking, other times you wail because your buckles are TOO tight!! By the way, they aren’t ever changed and are never too tight. Its unpredictability at its definition sweet boy and man is it challenging. You’re fiercely determined and stubborn but you are also charismatic and genuine. What you see is what you get with you Charlie and because of it you have people wrapped around your little finger minutes after meeting them; being rewarded with smiles, extra cookies and even 10% off our bill at a restaurant (yes this really happened). You love people and the stories they have to tell. When you play, you are always talking about people we know or making up grand stories about the duplo guys and the lives that they live. You love looking at pictures of people that we know and asking what they are doing or where they are now. You want to know about strangers, their names, where they are from, you want to know their stories. You talk to everyone, this makes public outings time-consuming but entertaining to say the least. Really there is not one person that you won’t talk to; most often referring to them as “Sir” or “Lady” and occasionally “Man” if we are forgetting our manners. You feel and love with every ounce of your being (this is not a bad thing sweet boy) but it does mean that your feelings get hurt from time to time and that a more gentle approach can work wonders with you.

Simply put, little boy, you are wonderfully and beautifully created and I am so proud to be your Mommy. Nightly I pray that I can meet the challenge of being your Mommy with grace and an understanding heart because I know three is hard for you too. I pray that I enjoy those glimpses of the truly astounding person you are and are continuing to become. I can’t wait to see what is ahead for you sweet boy, it’s greatness I am sure of it, but even more so I am really looking forward to watching the journey.

Happiest of Birthdays, Charlie Tuna!!! I love you!!

Love,
Momma

preschool happenings

So this post is ridiculously late. For posterity’s sake let’s just pretend that I have my act together and that this was posted in August when it should have been ;)

Both Jay and Charlie started preschool last week. Jay on Monday, going 4 days (9-12pm) a week and Charlie on Tuesday going 2 days (9-12pm) a week. We met their teachers the week before and they have been so excited about going since!! Both of the boys had fabulous first days and we couldn’t ask for better teachers or a better school!! I am continually grateful that we chose to send our boys to MSEE; there isn’t a better place for them to be!!

Photos from meet the teacher

Jay’s Teachers- Mrs. Hosler and Mrs. Pastore (Charlie joined in for the photo) Jay’s face in this photo pretty much sums up how he feels about school. He loves it SO much! He can’t wait to get out of the house in the morning to go and he talks about it all afternoon when we get home.

Charlie's first day

Charlie asked me on the way in to school today if I was going to stay with him and when I told him I wasn’t he looked at me and said “Oh Gosh!”. However, when I was dropping him off in his classroom he looked at Mrs. Stimmel after hugging me goodbye and said “I didn’t want Mommy to walk me in”. Needless to say, Charlie had no “first day jitters” to overcome! And in case you were curious, neither did Jay. He walked right in and had to be reminded to say goodbye to me! I love that they love school!

The boys asked me to take this one when we got to school on Charlie’s first day. Sweet brothers ;)

Lately, Jay and Charlie play really well together aside from when they are clotheslining each other or screaming that the other one “touched them!!” Which for sanities sake I have to believe is normal otherwise padded rooms here I come. Sorry I have sidetracked… Jay and Charlie play well, they enjoy each other’s company and they come up with fun and often times hilarious games together. The other day Jay excitedly announced from the other room that Charlie was his trailer. I didn’t fully understand what he meant until they came around the corner and this is what we saw… And while this may only be ridiculously funny to me and Jamie I thought I would share anyway. Enjoy!

p.s That is a “yeehaw” that you hear from Charlie towards the end of the video.

Also, as an added bonus three dancing boys… Seriously the rhythm here is astounding and yes pants are always optional!
