today i am…

Holy Camoly!!! Today our little Jay Bird is spreading his wings to reach 3 months! Man o’ man does time fly… People keep telling us to enjoy it because they grow up so fast; however, at this rate I am worried that if I blink for too long I will open my eyes to find a teenager!

Some things of note around the Perreault Household at three months:

*He is still growing like a bad weed- last night he weighed in at 13lbs 2oz and is about 24 inches long (at least that is my best attempt at measuring this little wiggly fella).

*Jay is sleeping anywhere from 8 to 10 hours at night right now; last night we put him down to bed at 9pm and he woke up a little before 7am. We are still going through the nightly routine; however he has a bath now instead of the shower.

*He has really started to notice his hands. He kind of holds them up in front of his face and examines them and then he tries to eat them- it is funny to watch.

*Just within the last week he has started to do this funny thing with his lip, he sucks on it and moves his tongue around (sorry a video would probably explain this better but he won’t cooperate and let me take one).

*He really truly smiles and recognizes Mommy and Daddy. He will look right at us and give you the biggest smile ever- melts my heart.

* He has started to pull his head up on his own- while he is on his back he pulls his head up like he is doing a crunch or trying to sit up. He tries so hard sometimes that his little face turns red, bless his heart.

*He can really hold his head up on his own. While you are holding him he holds it up and looks all around the place. I love watching him take everything in.

*He can’t quite laugh just yet, although he is trying very hard to and I don’t think that it will be long before he can.

*He rolls onto his right side frequently, but he can’t go all the way over yet. This is probably since he still doesn’t like tummy time very much.

*He has started to notice himself in the mirror. If you stand there with him he will smile and “talk” to himself.

Likes:

*He still loves to be outside. The other evening we had a picnic in our yard when Jamie got home from work because Jay was content to be on the blanket and therefore I could eat with two hands.

*He really loves his blue and brown play mat that Aunt Renee sent him. If Mommy would let him he would nap there all day long.

*He still loves the carrier, Mommy and Jay walk almost every morning and he stays awake for most of the walk looking around at things.

*Blowing bubbles- he constantly has bubbles dribbling out of his mouth.

*Looking at books- he loves to look at the pictures and colors of the books that we show him.

*Story time at night- every night while he is getting his nighttime feeding he gets two or three stories read to him by Mommy. His favorites are Guess How Much I Love You, Bedtime Kiss for Little Fish, and I Love you Through and Through.

*His morning cuddle with Mommy- every morning after he eats we generally snuggle back under the covers and doze in and out for another hour or so. This is one of Mommy’s likes too :-)

Dislikes:

*Napping- he fights daily when Jamie and I try to put him down for a nap, he would rather hang out and take in the world around him than nap.

*The Car- he still hates it (although he doesn’t always scream the whole time we are in the car anymore and I haven’t had to pull over lately) we are hoping that this will just get better with time.

story time with Daddy

I think that my absolute favorite time with Jay is first thing in the morning after he has eaten.  This is when he is either really sleepy again and cuddly or wide awake and very, very happy.  Last Sunday the three of us had a perfect lazy day and enjoyed just spending time as a family.  When I returned to our room with breakfast (bagels and fruit)in the morning- this is what I found…

Yes, my heart did in fact melt a little :-)

sleeping like a baby

A few weeks ago I needed to put Jay down so I could wash my face and well just get ready in the morning.  So I put him on the bed on top of his play mat and while he fussed (half heartedly) for a little bit I returned to find this…

He was sleeping like a baby all sprawled out and angelic looking.  You must understand that other than in the evenings this was the longest time that Jay had ever slept/napped on his own (not being held) since coming into this world.  I was ecstatic!!  It lasted only 25 minutes but those 25 minutes were heaven sent!  Not only did it mean that he was capable of sleeping on his own, it meant that I would eventually be able to get some things done around the house and maybe even go to the bathroom on my own; it meant that napping was a possibility- woohoo!!  Since then, Jamie and I have purchased the book, Healthy Sleep Habits, Healthy Child (recommended by some seasoned parents- thanks Chuck and Jenn) and have been trying out some of its advice.  The advice that tells you to let them cry, themselves to sleep- I hate it, it’s horrible!!  It is all I can do to stand around and listen to his wails on the monitor.  I anxiously count down the minutes until I am “allowed” to go in and soothe him again.

Piper has been funny about the whole napping thing.  She normally follows me around everywhere I go during the day; this can be troublesome when she is so close that I almost trip over her but in general I love it.  A few days ago I left Jay in his cradle to fall asleep (cry) and when I called for Piper to come with me she wouldn’t budge!  She stayed with Jay the whole time while he was crying and through his nap (15 minutes) afterward.  She is such a sweet girl…

We (mainly I) have relapsed a few times and let him sleep on us either when we are out and can not put him down or when it’s easier not to.  Sometimes he is just too darn cute to put down.  Seriously, I could cuddle with this kid all day long if he would let me… that and I can’t bare to hear his screams when I do put him down.  That being said, cross your fingers and say a prayer that I can make it through this “training” otherwise I will have to invent a contraption that holds sleeping teenagers…

party fools!

Sunday was a special day in the Perreault Household- on Sunday, Piper turned 3 years old!!  That’s huge, in puppy-dog-years she is 21 and can now purchase her own drinks.  Not that she would, I am just saying…

Jay wanted to celebrate, celebrate in style- hats were a necessity!

happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you...

On a side note- Jamie, Jay and I went for our first picnic together that afternoon.  Jay ate before we left and in the car at the park (yippee for the portability of breast feeding) and Jamie and I were able to spread the blanket out long enough (just long enough) to quickly eat our sandwiches under the shade of a tree.  This is counted as a success in my book- progress is being made in our house since we can actually get out of the house now!  We were also able to walk around the garden (Mead Gardens) and boardwalk while we were there- glorious, just glorious!!

we got Jay a cool hat kind of like his Daddy's- we want to keep the sun off of that sweet head of his!

snoozin' during the walk
some pretty flowers that we saw on our walk- I don't know what it is, could be a weed for all I know
